The
Universidad
de Chile, founded in 1842, is the premier national university of
Chile and one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the
Americas. Following the European tradition, the university comprises
13 faculties, three Interdisciplinary Institutes, and three National
Centers. It is the key research institution in the country with projects
in all areas of academic inquiry and modern library and telecommunication
facilities.
Students
can choose from a broad range of course offerings in all disciplines
and from a variety of interdisciplinary studies. Given its stature in
Chilean higher education, the university has also attracted a significant
number of foreign students (approximately 1,100) from all over the world.
